Safe and Sacred

Safe and Sacred is an online training that replaced Virtus Training two years ago.  This training is required to inform any volunteers of the potential dangers of abuse to our children.  The training is easy and takes about 30-40 minutes to complete.  You must complete the training even if you have taken the Virtus training in the past. However, if you completed this before, you do not need to do it again.

NOTE: The Archdiocese is requiring all volunteers to complete a form for a background check.  This form is included in the Safe and Sacred training below.  It will ask for your social security number as well as your driver's license number.  This information is held secure and confidential and will only be used if a background check is needed.

Have Questions?  Visit our Safe and Sacred FAQ page.

You must first create an account in order to do the training.

Below is a step-by-step tutorial for completing the Safe and Sacred training.

Step 2: Click on "Create new account"

Step 3: Fill out the appropriate information.  Make sure you choose a username and password you can remember.  When you get to the section about "My Ministry", for Position choose "volunteer", and for Primary Institution choose "TERRE HAUTE St. Patrick Church".  If you attend a different church than St. Patrick, you may also select that church for Secondary Institution - otherwise, select "Not Applicable".  TERRE HAUTE St. Patrick Church must be selected for Primary Institution in order to volunteer at St. Patrick School.

Step 4: Click "Continue" to create new account.

Step 5:  This is the main page that you will always get when you log-on to the Safe and Sacred website.  Click on "Safe Environment Training" to complete the training course.

Step 6:  It will ask you if you are sure you want to enroll in the course.  Select "Yes".

Step 7: This is the main screen for the course.  It indicates to you that you have NOT received a certificate yet.  You now need to take the course and subsequent quiz in order to get the certificate needed to volunteer.  Click on the "GO" button to start (or continue where you left off previously).

Step 8: When you start the course, it will give you a tutorial on how to use the online course.  Click on the "Continue" button to learn how.

Step 9: Once you know how to work your way through the material by clicking on the blue arrow on the right, you may take the course.  Following the informational course is a 10 question quiz that you must take and score a 90%.  When that happens, you will then fill out information for a mandatory background check (which requires you to enter your SSN and driver's license), as well as agree to a code of conduct.  Following this information, which is kept private and secure, you will be given a certificate.

Step 10:  You may choose to have the certificate emailed to you (good idea!).  It will always show up in your account even if you choose not to have it emailed to you.  You do not have to bring this certificate to school - the volunteer coordinator gets notified when people from St. Patrick School complete the training.  Click on "Complete Your Training" to finish the training.

Step 11: If you need to print the certificate at any time, you may visit the initial link above and log in.  You will then get the following page, indicating which certificates you have already received.
